1. It’s been over a year and a half since we wrapped up our third Linework NW festival back in May of 2016. When that show closed, we announced that we would be putting LWNW on hiatus for 2017, with the intention of returning in 2018. However, after much consideration, the LWNW Crew has decided to extend our sabbatical indefinitely. There will be no Linework NW festival next year or anytime in the near future.

As we mentioned last year, LWNW is a volunteer-run organization, and it takes a tremendous amount of energy to put on the festival each year. All of the organizers have had major creative, professional, and personal business to take care of in the last year, and and taking some time off from putting on the festival has honestly been a welcome break for all of us. While we love and cherish the incredible warmth and energy of the festival and the Linework NW community, we hope you’ll also understand that we’ve decided to take more time off. If and when we decide to return, Linework NW will be better than ever. And you’ll hear about it here first.

As always, all of our thanks, love, and appreciation to the creators, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees who have made Linework NW such and incredible, moving, and vibrant nexus for our creative community in Portland and beyond.

    All our love,

    The LWNW Crew

  2. So long, farewell… And see you again soon!

Just over a week ago, Linework NW brought together hundreds of creators and thousands of attendees in the beautiful Norse Hall in Portland, Oregon. Over the course of two days we saw amazing art, bought and sold books, comics, and prints, and discovered new creations. We were reunited with old friends and made new ones. For the third year in a row, Linework NW was the center of a creative community of illustrators, cartoonists, designers, and more. As the organizers of the event we couldn’t be more honored or more proud.

If you weren’t there on Sunday, you may have missed an important announcement: Linework NW is not returning in 2017. LWNW is a volunteer-run organization, and it takes a lot of energy to put on the festival each year. After three amazing years, the LWNW Crew had decided in advance that we would be retiring the festival for the time being. We printed up an announcement in the Sunday program and we were ready to drop the mic at the end of the weekend.

    But.

All weekend we got so much positive feedback from our exhibitors, our attendees, our volunteers, and more. As word began to spread that we were retiring Linework, many people came to us with offers of support, pledging to lend a hand to keep the festival running and make it even better. We began to talk more and more about the possibility of keeping the festival going, and the excitement was hard to deny.

So, we made a big decision: We’re taking 2017 off, and we’re bringing it back in 2018. With this additional time, and the help of some amazing new team members, we think that we can make LWNW even better, more ambitious, and better run than ever before. We think that Linework NW 2018 is going to be the best-ever version of our festival, and we are so excited to see you all again in two years!

In the meantime, you can expect to hear from is in the weeks and months to come. While we won’t be running a full-sized festival before 2018, there are still lots of ideas in the hopper for ways to keep on connecting with our community in Portland and beyond. Follow us on Tumblr, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to hear all the latest news from us. In the coming weeks we’re very excited to share audio and video from our fantastic panels, more photos from the festival, and more.

Thank you so much to all of our attendees, exhibitors, Special Guests, sponsors, venues, and partners. Linework NW can’t exist without your support, energy, and creativity.

    All our love,

    The LWNW Crew
